In Gravwell, players command spaceships that have been pulled through a black hole, transporting them into a different dimension. With each ship lacking fuel to get home, each player must collect basic elements from surrounding asteroids, using the gravity of the dimension and what little resources they have in order to reach the warp gate that will take them home.
But in this dimension, moving ships will travel towards the nearest object, and when some of those objects are moving either forward or backward, moving to the warp gate isn't always easy! Players will draft fuel cards in each round, giving you some information on what moves you can expect from the other spaceships. With careful card-play and good timing, one player has the chance to escape the Gravwell before anyone else!
“Gravwell’s unique characteristic is its movement mechanism. The fact that you’re gravitationally entangled with all the objects on the board, including the other players’ ships, changes it from a straightforward race game into an almost cooperative experience,” said Corey Young, game designer for Gravwell. “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the entire Cryptozoic team. Their playtesters helped trim the rough edges and discovered new variations, including solo play – something I’d never considered. Their creative team gave the game its distinctive look, recreating my initial warped space concept better than I could have described it."
